Description
DAWN - This is a painting done in a technique known as redaction. A color is applied all over the canvas surface, top to bottom, side to side. In this case a mix of Burnt Sienna and Raw Umber serves as the ground cover. Once the color is down, the paint wiped off, and the under painting of the mixed color remains as a tint on the canvas. In this case, the yellow glow is what remained behind the trees and cornfield. So, essentially, you’re looking at a two-toned canvas. One tone very light and the other tone is dark. This painting was inspired by Maryland’s Eastern Shore and the farm fields that literally run right up to the loblolly pines tree lines.
