Description
FERRY LANDING SUNRISE - From the 1870s to the 1940s and 50s a ferry ran between Berlin, Maryland and Assateague Island. Residents and visitors would catch the ferry over to Assateague to picnic and explore the island. When the hurricane came through in 1933 and split the barrier island in two, Ocean City was north of the inlet and Assateague was south. The ferry fell on hard times and stopped running as development on Assateague stopped. But, the ferry landing location remained. The painting overlooks the scene visitors would see approaching Assateague by ferry. Painted en plein air. (Price: $800)
